Art, Music, Physical Education & Adapted Physical Education

At Charles Peck Elementary, Art gives students the opportunity to create, explore, and express themselves through a variety of materials, techniques, and projects. Students build creativity, confidence, fine-motor skills, problem-solving abilities, and an appreciation for the arts while having fun and trying new things.

Our Art program is connected to the California Arts Standards for Visual Arts, which outline what students should know and be able to do at each grade level. These standards guide learning in areas such as creating artwork, developing and refining ideas, responding to art, and making connections between art, culture, and everyday life.

Art instruction at Charles Peck is provided by Ms. Votaw on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays.

Most importantly, we want every Panther to feel encouraged to be creative, take artistic risks, and discover their own unique way of expressing ideas through art.

Music at Charles Peck Elementary gives students a chance to experience rhythm, melody, movement, and performance in a fun and engaging way. Through singing, playing instruments, listening, and creating, students strengthen musical skills while also building focus, confidence, collaboration, and self-expression.

Instruction is guided by the California Arts Standards for Music, which support students as they learn to create, perform, respond to, and connect with music in meaningful ways.

Music is taught by Mr. Radu on Thursdays and Fridays.

Our goal is for students to enjoy making music, feel confident participating, and develop an appreciation for music that continues beyond the classroom.

Physical Education at Charles Peck Elementary gives students time to be active, build skills, and learn how movement supports a healthy life. Lessons include a mix of games, fitness activities, individual skills, and team challenges designed to help students become more confident and capable movers.

Instruction is based on the California Physical Education Standards, which provide grade-level expectations for motor skills, fitness, movement concepts, personal responsibility, and positive interaction with others. These standards help ensure that students continue building on what they have learned as they move from one grade level to the next.

California students in grades 1–6 are required to receive at least 200 minutes of physical education every 10 school days.

PE is taught by Mr. Dillie on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays and Coach S. on Thursdays and Fridays.

Our goal is to help students find success in movement, enjoy being active, and develop skills and habits they can carry with them beyond elementary school.

At Charles Peck Elementary, Adapted Physical Education (APE) provides specially designed physical education instruction for students who need additional support to successfully participate in physical activity.

APE services may be provided through push-in or pull-out instruction and may take place individually or in small groups, depending on each student’s needs. Instruction may focus on motor skills, coordination, balance, fitness, movement, and other skills that support successful participation in physical education.

APE services are individualized and, when applicable, are provided as part of a student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP).

APE is taught by Mr. Watson at scheduled times throughout the week.
